A reward has been offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for the murders of Winston County residents Elmer and Joette Thrasher.The Thrashers were killed on the night of December 10, 2001 in their home on Alabama Highway 195 in the Forkville community. If you have any information, please call the Winston County Sheriff's Office at (205) 489-2115 or the District Attorney's office at (205) 489-2235. All calls confidential.

The Winston County Sheriff’s Office provides law enforcement, corrections programs and services to the community.

The Sheriff is mandated to carry out a number of administrative and operational functions, including patrolling and monitoring traffic, providing emergency planning services, and providing court security when requested.

The Sheriff is also mandated to provide for sufficient jail space and to keep it in good repair. The Sheriff’s office provides ongoing training for its employees.

    The Winston County Sheriff's Office is available 24 hours a day to respond to emergency calls. When notifying the Sheriff's Department of an emergency or criminal activity, you should be prepared to supply the following information:

    • Nature of Incident
    • Location of Incident
    Description of Person(s) Involved (If criminal in nature.
    • Description of Property Involved (If criminal in nature.
    • Suspected Injury or Condition (If medical emergency.
    • Your Name and Location (For the responding officer.)
